Stop Smoking - Eat Breakfast

By Suzy Zacharia

Do you want to stop smoking? Have you tried Hypnotherapy, NLP, EFT, gum, patches, counseling with no result? Do you skip breakfast?

If you are finding it hard to kick the habit and you skip breakfast, this is for you. You see, breakfast is one meal that most doctors, nutritionists, scientists and complementary therapists agree is a very important meal of the day. And many people skip breakfast to keep hunger at bay and their weight under control.

But surely I need to skip breakfast I hear you say! Well, if you do, most health practitioners, from doctors to alternative therapists, would tell you that eating, not skipping, breakfast helps you control your weight. For example, a typical study shows that "skipping breakfast was associated with increased prevalence of obesity".

To give you my answer, I'd like to give a couple of examples.

I had a lady that came for EFT for neck pain. The pain would simply not go away, whatever we tapped on. Now I happen to have worked alongside three of the greatest osteopaths and one of the best physiotherapists in the UK, with extensive massage experience as a practitioner. So that's where I then went to consult my mind's knowledge base for clues. I asked her more searching questions, and from her answers, I understood that her neck suffered an acute physical trauma which needs putting right to prevent a permanent weakness there. So I gave her the number and name of the appropriate osteopath and asked her to call him the very next morning (we were doing this in the evening). Then we tapped "Even though I have this neck pain, I promise to ring Andrew's clinic first thing in the morning and see him asap, I really do mean it, I will see him." The pain finally went right down to a negligible SUDS after a few rounds of this.

I have many people that have come to me for eating issues. To encourage them, I like putting snacks in front of them and tapping for the desire to eat the snacks. The first time the following happened, I was gob smacked. A girl that looked like she was a normal weight joined the eating issues workshop I was running, did the tapping, but she and she alone could not reduce her craving. It finally fell by about a half-out-of-ten. Then it hit me; I said "When was the last time you had something to eat?" The answer was that it was over 24 hours previously. So the body was craving any food at all in order to carry on functioning, hence the EFT "didn't work" (although in my opinion, it worked rather elegantly). This happened numerous times since. Many smokers, for example, see me to stop smoking, whereas they also have another addiction of disordered eating. Some do not eat anything till night-time, having only one meal and using the cigarettes to curb their natural desire for nutrition. When we EFT for the smoking cravings and it "doesn't work", I ask "When have you last eaten?". Sometimes, I take time out of the session to feed the client, then we start again, and Hey Presto, the EFT works!

I see it like this. The mind-body was saying that it had a deep problem with disordered eating and was asking me to help the disordered eating first, and the cigarette addiction second.

So if you smoke and skip breakfast, you are wasting your time smoking, you may as well eat breakfast to control your weight, and then stop smoking.

Wishing you health, success and happiness.

How to Give Up Smoking - Why Popsicles Can Help You Quit Smoking Now

By Brian A.

For almost twenty years, a part of my daily routine was to smoke cigarettes. When I finally decided to learn how to give up smoking, I was unprepared for the various withdraw symptoms that occurred.

Most smokers are aware of the withdraw from nicotine that will occur, as well as changes that are required in social settings. However, what I was surprised to discover was that the oral fixation addiction was almost as powerful as the nicotine withdraw itself.

As I went through the process of learning how to give up smoking, I of course made a small investment into a stop smoking program that treated the nicotine and exercise portions that are vital to success. However, I could not get over the incredible urge to have something in my mouth or hanging on my lips! I know it sounds strange, but in research, I found this to be a common problem among many people looking to stop smoking.

For a while, I had not idea how to solve this problem, until one day it hit me - popsicles! By sucking on a popsicle several times a day, I could easily satisfy the craving and feeling of have a cigarette between my lips. The wonderful flavors and satisfaction of a popsicle worked like a charm for me. I probably went though 400 popsicles during my quest to stop smoking, however, the cost of keeping these on hand far outweighed the cost of a carton of smokes.

By treating all aspects of the withdraw, from nicotine replacement gum to popsicles for the oral fixation, I was able to quit for good. It has been over a year smoke free now for me.

The exact program I used for the nicotine addiction was the CigArrest program. This program is 100% natural, meaning I was not replacing the nicotine from a cigarette with the nicotine from a gum or pill. The natural supplements the program offered really help calm my cravings, and they also provided a support structure and vitamin regiment that started repairing my lung capacity.

To get more information on how to give up smoking, including a free 30 day supply of CigArrest products, you can visit this stop smoking website: How to Give Up Smoking.

For the popsicles, I actually used the Flav-o-Ice brand. I found the size and shape of these freezer pops to be the most satisfying for my needs. Whatever method you choose, now is a great time to stop smoking.

Creative Hypnosis - Eva Quit Smoking After Being Asked One Key Question

By Wesley Anderson, DCH

There are no absolute certainties for a hypnotherapist while working with a client. Clients who request hypnosis for common issues like stopping smoking may need the hypnotherapist to use a creative approach because of their unique personality needs. Some years ago, I was gathering information from Eva, (not her real name) about her smoking habits. And, she let me know in no uncertain terms, that smoking was something that "no one could take away from her".

I have run across defiance issues around stopping smoking many times while working with smokers over the years. It's common for someone who has been nagged about smoking to have some resentments, and a knee jerk "don't tell me what to do" response. I tried my usual approaches for dealing with defiance with Eva, but got nowhere. At this point I was at a loss. I didn't know what to do.

This woman was in her early 60's, liked to smoke, did not want to stop smoking, and she let me know that in no uncertain terms. The only reason that she was attempting to stop smoking was that she had the beginnings of emphysema. And her doctors had told her that if she stopped smoking she had a good chance of reversing the progress of the disease. She was scared that the emphysema was going to kill her.

The threat of death is frequently not enough to compel someone to stop smoking. There are plenty of examples of people continuing to smoke even though they have lung cancer, or chronic bronchitis. However, Eva had an important goal that she wanted to accomplish before she died. She wanted to see her great granddaughter be born.

So how was I going to deal with Eva's stubborn notion that smoking could not be "taken away" from her? I knew that if her belief was not dealt with that she would likely continue smoking despite all my other efforts. Between Eva's first and second sessions, I really wondered a lot about how to address her belief, and I came up with an idea.

During Eva's second session I brought up again the idea that "smoking is something that no one could take from her". She proudly let me know again that it was true. Then I asked Eva a question. "Some people have beliefs that they would be willing to die for. Would you be willing to die for that one?"

She looked scared, and said, "No!". And, that was a moment of hypnosis. Eva briefly went into an altered state of consciousness as she developed a new set of feelings about her once proud attachment to smoking. Smoking was no longer a statement of Eva's independence and individuality. It was a threat!

As Eva said "No!" in answer to my question, I touched her on the hand for about half a second. She then associated the touch on that specific spot with her fear of death from smoking. Every time I touched that spot, Eva felt the same fear again. Those kinds of associations are called anchors.

After that, I briefly touched the spot that was anchored to Eva's fear on her hand every time that I mentioned smoking, cigarettes, or nicotine. And, that created in her a new association, a fear of smoking. So, that new association literally scared her out of her smoking habit. Eva's belief that "smoking is something that no one could take away from her" became unimportant, even scary. Although, Eva was right. No one took smoking away from her. She stopped smoking because she wanted to live long enough to see her great granddaughter be born. And, she responded to the real threat of death from smoking quite reasonably. It scared her.

Later, Eva was guided into a comfortable state of official hypnosis. I then requested that her unconscious mind develop new choices and behaviors to replace smoking that were much more satisfying and healthy. All that Eva knew was that she stopped smoking, and that she felt just fine. She never needed to consciously come up with new choices or behaviors, because they were developed, and put into action by her unconscious mind.

About Insomnia and Smoking

By Lie Jiarong

Smoking causes all sorts of problems for you, especially at the end of a long day when you just want to go home and get some much needed sleep.

Why is this so?

Well, smoking is a stimulant and stimulants interfere with the body's ability to fall asleep.

Many smokers think that smoking will make them feel calmer and help them to relax. The facts are different, because when it comes time to sleep, instead of being able to rest, the body craves for nicotine. Also, smokers cough a lot and find it difficult to breathe which just makes it harder for them to fall asleep. They are also likely to snore and suffer from other breathing problems that will affect their ability to sleep.

Feeling sleepy and irritable during the day isn't a good thing because it makes it hard to find the energy and commitment to do your work well and you could risk losing your job.

Unfortunately, quitting is difficult to do because cigarettes are readily available and there is a lot of peer pressure to smoke. However, there are many things you can try to do to quit the habit. At the end of the day, you want to be able to have a good night's sleep as well as have increased energy and a healthier body.

  • Exercise such a walking or swimming helps to take the cravings away
  • Use nicotine patches or chew gum to help with withdrawal symptoms
  • Join a support group, call a helpline and seek the encouragement of friends and family
  • Try acupuncture
  • Seek professional help on how to give up smoking. GP's will be able to advise you on the risks of smoking and what you can do to quit the habit.

What Are the Best Ways to Stop Smoking?

By Anna Barrington

Do a google search for Best Ways to Quit Smoking or Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) and you will be inundated with a variety of products, from patches, gums, smoking hypnosis, herbal pills, lozenges, inhalers and sprays, books, CD's and lots more. Everyone claims their product is the best and will easily help you give up smoking. So where do you start and what really works?

Nicotine Replacement Therapies or NRT come in a variety of forms the most popular being chewing gum and nicotine patches which are placed on your skin. These all work by replacing the nicotine obtained from smoking to reduce the withdrawal effects you can have when you stop smoking.

There are several disadvantages to these aids, one being their expense. If you are a heavy smoker then the cost will probably be similar to what you would have spent on cigarettes but if you are only a light smoker you may find the cost prohibitive. In some areas you can receive NRT subsidized or even free so it is worth checking with your doctor for this help.

There are several side effects from using NRT which include upset stomachs, heartburn, headaches and skin rashes. A few people who use these smoking aids will also suffer from addiction switching. They may have given up smoking but they are now addicted the gum or patch: this has a variety of dangerous side effects on their health if used in the long term. Reports of hair loss, chronic depression, elevated blood pressure, facial reddening, bleeding and diseased gums are just a few of the effects of long term use.

Overall, nicotine replacement therapy could enable about 15% of smokers who seek help in stopping smoking to give up the habit but some of the side effects including the addiction switching should be fully considered before using this type of stop smoking aid.

Many medical professionals suggest using a smoking aid in conjunction with behavioural therapy and/or counselling. However there is a strong movement towards natural ways to quit with a number of studies proving that these could be the most effective methods even without the NRT. Possibly the most popular natural ways to quit include NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming), Acupuncture and Hypnotherapy.

The advantages of these systems are they are not reliant on using nicotine as an aid.

Acupuncture restores and balances a person's natural energy and healing system and with this equilibrium they are better placed to control the desires of smoking. It can be expensive as a number of treatments are needed and you should always use a professional practitioner as unclean needles can cause an infection. It is hard to determine the success rate of this system as there are a number of contradictory studies.

Hypnosis for smoking is a system that is receiving more recognition for its success rate and because it is a natural way to quit with no side effects. It works by planting ideas and affirmations in the subconscious mind whilst the smoker is in a deeply relaxed state. There have been reports of no cravings and no desire to smoke after one session. The success of the hypnosis smoking is dependent on the practitioner and it can be expensive. However there are a number of self hypnosis products which are good value for money.

With any of these processes to stop smoking each person will try a variety of processes before they hit on the one that helps them. No one will stop smoking unless they want to do so, and patient motivation must be the prerequisite of any quitting program.

Programs to Quit Smoking - Tips on How to Give Up Smoking (This Time For Good!)

By Brian A.

Trying to find simple yet effective programs to quit smoking is more difficult than it sounds. Millions of smokers each year decide that this is the year they will learn how to give up smoking for good. Some may last a few days, others a few weeks. Sadly, most people will fail and return right back to smoking on a regular basis.

The problem is that there is seemingly not a guaranteed method of smoking cessation that will work for anyone and everyone. However, I can share with you a few tips and strategies that have worked for me.

First, do not make the mistake of going on a program to quit smoking that replaces cigarettes with another nicotine based product. Most gums and lozenges offered today contain nicotine. Sure, this will help cure your cravings, but as nicotine is the addictive part of the cigarette, you can become addicted to the gum instead. And nicotine gum, my friends, is certainly not cheaper than cigarettes. Many people go back to smoking because the nicotine addiction was not cured, and it is cheaper to smoke rather than buy expensive gum all the time.

The key here is to find a program to quit smoking that is homeopathic, and contains no addictive substances.

Second, you will need to also treat the oral fixation that comes with cigarette addiction. What has worked for me in the past is to replace smokes with pretzel sticks. You can even break them up into normal cigarette shapes and put them in an empty pack. When the urge hits, take out a pretzel instead! The oral fixation is satisfied, and you are working your way to breaking the smoking habit.

Use these two tips to help you on your way to a smoke free life. I have found that the program to quit smoking offered by Cigarrest to be extremely effective.

This particular program offers all natural, addictive nicotine free gum and lozenges, as well as a complete support system to get you over the hump. By treating both the psychological addiction and nicotine addiction, Cigarrest gives people a real chance at success, without becoming addicted to something else.

Cigarrest is currently offering a FREE 30 day trial as well.

To get started on your way to a smoke free life, get more information on the complete 30 day trial by visiting e-DietNews.com. There is a complete listing of free offers, including the Cigarrest 30 Day Trial.

Stop Smoking - The Most Important Factor to Consider When You Decide to Quit Smoking

By Stephen Zane

I think it's safe to say that just about everyone who is currently a smoker would like to quit. Not sure? Ask yourself this question. Knowing what you know now, if you could go back in time to the day before you became hooked on cigarettes, would you do it? There's your answer. Just about everyone answers a resounding 'yes' to that one. So, now that you know you want to, what's stopping you? What's the most important factor to consider when you decide to quit smoking?

In the opinion of a happy ex-smoker, the most important factor to consider when you decide to quit smoking is the psychological factor. The factor that leaves you feeling miserable and deprived. The one that makes you treat everyone like crap hoping that one of them will suggest you should keep smoking and try another time. The one that eventually creates whatever scenario it needs to so you can resume smoking once again.

Despite what you may believe, the physical effects of quitting smoking aren't that big a deal. It's the massive brainwashing job we do on ourselves that makes it so difficult to stop smoking. You're probably doing it right now.

So much attention is paid to dealing with cravings and nicotine replacement and support groups. The physical cravings don't last that long. Nicotine replacement is completely illogical and doesn't work. Trying to break a nicotine addiction with nicotine is pretty stupid if you asked me. Support groups can be of some benefit, but the real secret is to sort out the psychological aspects before you decide to quit.

If you can get a handle on the psychological aspects and deal with your self sabotage before it happens, you'll be well on your way to success. It really isn't that hard to stop smoking. All you have to do is take action.

I've been where you are. Wanting to quit so badly but not knowing where to start.
